6 April 2008 - Sherborne Castle

Springtime snow at Sherborne Castle.
A walk around the Sherborne Castle lake counting the wildfowl and wetland birds as part of a national survey called WEBS. This is a job I do once a month all year round.

A very rare sight these days. Sherborne castle and grounds with a dusting of snow.

Some of the daffodils are nearly over.

By the time I finished my walk this was nearly all green again.

Sherborne Castle with a white lawn.

The view from the Castle steps across the estate.

The western end of the lake.

This view put me in mind of a cake dusted with icing sugar.

Looking east across the lake.

This little thatched shelter has a table and benched inside. What an idilic place to have a picnic.

I particulary like the grey and green colours in this shot.

It is rather bizarre that on the first day that I see the Martins and Swallows arrive we have snow. They must have thought they had arrived a month sooner than they did!
There were several hundred of them flying low over the water. I decided that I must try and capture them for the record. This is a shot of a Sand Martin.

And this is a rather poor shot of a Swallow. But at least you can see the tail streamers and the blue back with red cheeks.
