Ashmore is located on the Dorset / Wiltshire border about six miles south east of Shaftesbury.

Opposite the church is this Wesleyan Chapel which dates from 1855.

The village church of St. Nicholas which dates from 1874 was built on the site of an older church. The church incorporates a 13th century chancel arch from the earlier building.
