Semnoz is a mountain of Haute-Savoie. It lies in the Bauges range. It has an altitude of 1,699 m above sea level. The mountain is crossed by the D41/D110 road near to the Crêt de Chatillon. My photographs were taken in July 2015.
This view is from the summit looking in a north easterly direction towards the Alps.
In this view you can see the snow capped summit of Mont Blanc with cloud cover.
On the summit is a memorial to Captain Peter Churchill of the British Special Operations Executive (SOE). He parachuted into this area on the night of 14/15 April 1943. Two days later he was captured along with his accomplice Odette Samson. They were both held in German concentration camps but survived the war. They married in 1947.
