My first visit to this Yorkshire town.
Our first stop was at the Craven Court shopping centre.
The shopping centre has been developed and expanded from a 16th century theatre. The victorian themed design is of modern construction.
The Leeds and Liverpool canal runs through Skipton. We took short walk along the canal side.
There was a real buzz of activity.
The boat on the right, “Rosie”, was not so much a long boat but a short boat. I think these are for day cruises from the basin.
This is the short Springs branch that heads of under the bridge towards Skipton Castle. For more information on the history of the canal follow this link.
This view gives an insight as to how the canal may have looked during the height of the industrial revolution.
The canal boat owners take great pride in their crafts. There were lots of colourful plants on display.
Skipton Town Hall and Museum
It was Market day when we were there. The Market is on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Follow this link to the next stop at Keighley.
